What songs should you avoid at your wedding?
Recently, a bride said to me: “I really don’t want to hear Mr.Brightside because we hear that everywhere.” Then she quickly followed up: “Is that on a lot of other couples’ do-not-play lists?”
The truth is…no. Mr.Brightside is a super popular wedding song. We play it at a lot of weddings and guests are always happy to hear it. But this is your wedding, and you don’t have to follow the trends if you don’t want to.
Your do-not-play list doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s
Other couples have made all kinds of requests that make sense for them and their wedding party:
No line dancing stuff
No cha cha slide
Nothing cheesy
No Bruno Mars
If there’s some artists you don’t like, it’s easy to avoid those.
And a good wedding DJ should be able to translate your preferences into a sweet custom playlist.
It’s OK to be picky. There’s plenty of good music out there. The more filled-out and robust your do-not-play list is, the more space we’ll have for the songs you love!
